I hope everyone is rested up after a long and exciting week! I want to express to everyone how proud I am of what the band has accomplished this year. This is the first time we have made finals at a 6A Area contest and were incredibly close to advancing to the State contest. The energy on the field during our performance on Saturday night was electric and it was incredibly exciting to witness. This isn't something that just happens but is rather a result of the hard work of our students and their dedication to the Tompkins Band. Thank you also to all of our wonderful parent volunteers throughout the season who took such great care of all 252 members of the OTHS Band!
With the end of the competitive marching season here, we are going to start shifting towards the indoor side of things while also taking care of the last few marching band related performances. Winter Guard auditions will begin this week on Thursday and percussion students should be on the lookout for information about indoor drumline auditions very soon. Wind and percussion students will shift to concert band, jazz band, symphony orchestra and region band preparation and everyone will perform at Jingle Jam in December. Much of that rehearsal and performance information is already in Charms and more will be added soon.
We are also going to slightly adjust the schedule as seen in Charms to give everyone some time off to rest and re-group as we transition. This week, we will only rehearse as a full bandon Friday from 3:30-4:30 so we can work with the drill team and practice for senior recognition on Saturday. We are also going to adjust the call time on Saturday morning to 8:30 am but will still plan on serving breakfast to the kids when they arrive.
Have a great week!
