Thank you to everyone who came out and made our first mattress fundraiser a success!
Your first chance to see the full 2018 production of the OTHS Marching Band will be Saturday, September 29 at Legacy Stadium. We will rehearse from 8 am until noon and will have a special preview performance for all friends and families at 12:00 pm. This is a great chance to come and get a sneak peek at what the kids have been working so hard on for the last couple of months before we start competing the following weekend. We will have food for all of the kids afterwards as well. Hope to see you there!

The truck will be brought back to Tompkins after the rehearsal on Saturday and we’ll need parents and students who are available to come back to school to help unload.

Our next game will take place on Friday, September 28 vs. Seven Lakes High School at 6:30 pm at Legacy Stadium. Please remember that all games are mandatory for all students.

Guard members need to wear a black shirt and black dance pants (you will change into your uniform at the game). Students must also have their flip folder, lyre, all music, instrument in working condition, guard equipment, garment bag, and their OTHS Band water bottle.

When participating in any region audition, it is important not to wear any clothing that will reveal to the judges what school you are from. Do, however, dress in layers so you can make sure you are comfortable whether the audition room is cold or hot.
Legacy Stadium Rehearsal/Performance
We will rehearse on Saturday, September 29 at Legacy Stadium from 8 am until noon with a parent performance following the rehearsal. Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from Legacy Stadium that day and will need to plan on arriving at Legacy by no later than 7:20 am. The 18 wheeler will still be loaded and at the stadium from the game the night before, so that will all need to unloaded and prepared for rehearsal before 8 am.
Students will need to wear athletic shorts, their navy blue spirit shirt, black socks, black Viper marching band shoes and white gloves. We will rehearse with shakos and plumes as well.
This is an extremely important rehearsal as it gives us an opportunity to get the feel for a large stadium the week before our first contest at BOA Conroe. As with any rehearsal or performance, this is mandatory for all band students.
If possible, we would like to have all parent pit crew members in attendance at the performance so we can discuss your responsibilities afterwards.
Illuminating the GPA Game
Tompkins High School will be hosting a live Q&A Panel with University Admissions Officers from around the country on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 PM in the PAC. The head counselor and orchestra directors have crafted a list of questions designed to shed light on the misconceptions that lead students and parents to believe they must engage themselves in the GPA game. University admissions officers will speak to the idea of holistic admissions as well as what qualities they specifically look for in students beyond just having good grades. The panel includes the Katy ISD area admissions counselors (THE person who reads all applications from Katy ISD) from: Duke, Rice, Northwestern, Boston College, Vanderbilt, and the University of Houston. This event is open to all Katy ISD fine arts students and parents.
The Falcon Mum Factory is in need of MANY volunteers to help cut, staple, fold, assemble and more! YOU CAN DO THIS even if you aren’t creative — everyone can use a pair of scissors and cut a straight line! The Annual Homecoming Mum Sale is the band’s largest fundraiser and we rely on our wonderful volunteers to help make it happen. Please see the Mum Factory Facebook page for details about hours, etc.
