Band News (week of 10/22-10/28)
Hey Falcons! Please see below from Mr. Bond's email for the week of Monday (10/22) through Sunday (10/28)...
Congratulations to everyone for a great contest performance this past week at the Katy Marching Festival! And way to go to the color guard for winning best color guard at the contest! We’re now halfway done with our contest performances and the end of marching season will be here before you know it. We all need to make sure we’re maximizing our time so that these last couple of performances are something that we’re really proud of.
This next week is the ultimate “Band-tober” week and we need to make sure everyone is firing on all cylinders. Please take the time to relax and get ahead in your classes over the weekend so we can maximize our potential over the course of the following week.
Parents, we are still in need of lots of help for the UIL Marching Contest next Tuesday, with our biggest need being helping with truck parking at the contest. Every KISD school helps to run this contest and the Katy Marching Festival and we need to make sure we’re doing our part. If you can help, please go to the following link to sign up:
We are also in charge of parking at the Area Marching Contest on Saturday, October 27 and need volunteers for that as well. If you can help, please go to the following link and sign up:
Please don’t assume someone else will do this. We need your help!

Football Game vs. JETHS
Our next game will take place on Thursday, October 25 vs. James E. Taylor High School at 6:30 pm at Legacy Stadium. Please remember that all games are mandatory for all students.
Dress for this football game will be full uniform. Wind and percussion students need to wear their show shirt, performance shorts, black socks, Viper marching shoes and gloves (winds). Guard members need to wear a black shirt and black dance pants (you will change into your uniform at the game). Students must also have their flip folder, lyre, all music, instrument in working condition, guard equipment, garment bag, and their OTHS Band water bottle.
2:50 pm – Rehearsal in the stadium
3:50 pm – Eat/Pack/Load
5:00 pm – Depart for Legacy Stadium
5:15 pm – Arrive at Legacy Stadium (we are the home team)
6:30 pm – Game Begins
7:30 pm – Approximate Halftime
9:00 pm – Approximate end of game/Postgame Performance
11:00 pm – Approximate dismissal from OTHS
Please note that we will not performing any of our competition show at halftime, but will be performing the entire show postgame. This is a great opportunity for our students to perform the full show in uniform at Legacy Stadium before the area contest on Saturday. Please plan to stick around and cheer on the band after the game!
Area Marching Contest
The UIL Area Marching Contest will take place on Saturday, October 27. If we earn a first division rating on Tuesday at the region marching contest, we will compete at area. Because we won’t know which bands will compete at area until after region on Tuesday, we don’t have a schedule for that day yet. However, once I know the area schedule I will send that out. Our students just need to plan on being with us for most of the day on that Saturday.
There is a very good chance that our football team will make the playoffs for the first time in school history this year, which will mean that we will have games added to our calendar. The first round of playoffs will take place on the weekend that starts the Thanksgiving break, with the second round taking place during the Thanksgiving break. I understand that people have travel plans during this time, so if you have a conflict, please let me know after the playoff games are confirmed.
Have a great week!
