Band News (week of 2/4-2/10)

Hey Falcons! Please see below from Mr. Bond's email for the week of Monday (2/4) through Sunday (2/10)...

Good luck to our winter guards as they compete at their first show tomorrow at Turner High School in Pearland! The JV guard will perform at 3:07 pm, the A guard will perform at 6:55 pm and the Open guard will perform at 8:53 pm. Admission to the contest is $10.

Mulch sales are coming to an end! Spread the word and buy your mulch before February 5. Please go to for more information.

If you have a truck and/or trailer and can help with deliveries on February 9, please follow this link to sign up to help:

If you can help deliver mulch next weekend, we really need your help! Thank you!

Indoor Drum Line Performance

The Tompkins Indoor Drum Line will make its debut next Saturday, February 9 at Pasadena Memorial High School. The performance takes place at 5:37 pm and admission is $10.

Winter Guard WGI Performance

The Open Guard and A Guard will perform at the WGI Houston Regional at Klein Oak High School next Saturday, February 9. The A Guard performs in prelims at 2:38 pm and the Open Guard performs in prelims at 3:35 pm. If the groups make finals, we will send that information out. Tickets are $15 for prelims, $15 for finals or $25 for both.

Side by Side Concert

The Wind Symphony will rehearse and perform alongside our incoming freshman band members on Tuesday, February 5. If you’d like to see the performance, please come out to the main commons at 7:15 pm.

Solo and Ensemble

Piano accompanists will begin coming to class next week. At this point, all students should be able to play through their entire solo at tempo or at least approaching the goal tempos. You only get two rehearsals with your accompanists. Please do not waste those opportunities by not being prepared. Every student knows who their accompanist is at this point and should check Charms to see which dates their accompanist will be here.

TCGC Show at OTHS on February 23

Our school is pleased to host the TCGC Contest at Tompkins February 23. This is an important event and fundraising opportunity for our organization so we need all band and color guard families to volunteer and/or donate. Information will soon be sent on how you can volunteer for the contest. If you are unsure if you are available that day, please help out by donating items to our concession stand.

  • The easiest way to donate is through the OTHS Band wish list. Please search TCGC wish list in or follow this link: Items will be shipped directly to one of our TCGC volunteers who will deliver it to the school. Please place your order before Feb 15th and make sure it will be delivered by Feb 21st so we know how many items still need to be purchased. Don't forget to use Amazon Smile.

  • A case of Gatorade or any item from the Amazon wish list you prefer to buy and bring yourself may be brought to the band hall.

  • Cash or a Sam's gift card donation may be made to any OTHS band director. Please place it in an envelope labeled TCGC donation.

Individual pictures will be taken Wednesday, February 13 during all classes. All wind and percussion students will at least need to wear their marching uniform jacket for the composite picture. Guard students will wear their fall uniforms. If you are interested in purchasing a set of pictures, you may do so. Order forms went home with students this week. Wind and percussion students who are purchasing individual pictures will wear their full uniform so will need to bring uniform shoes and black socks to school for the picture. Since the composite picture is just a head shot, if you are not purchasing pictures you do not need to bring any uniform accessories.

Have a great weekend!
