Band News (week of 2/11-2/17)
Hey Falcons! Please see below from Mr. Bond's email for the week of Monday (2/4) through Sunday (2/10)...
Congratulations to members of the winter guard for very successful first performances this past weekend! All three guards performed wonderfully, with the JV guard earning 3rd place in its class and the A guard and Open guard earning first place in their classes. The Open guard and SA guard will perform this weekend at the WGI Houston Regional at Klein Oak High School. SA will perform in prelims at 2:38 pm and Open will perform in prelims at 3:35 pm. If the groups make finals, we will send that information out. Tickets are $15 for prelims, $15 for finals or $25 for both.
The Tompkins Indoor Drum Line will make its debut tomorrow, February 9 at Pasadena Memorial High School. The performance takes place at 5:17 pm (this is a change from last week) and admission is $10.
Mulch sales have ended and delivery will take place tomorrow! We sold close to 2000 bags and can still use more help with delivery. If you are helping with delivery, please show up at 7:45 am so we can begin sending orders out at 8 am. If you ordered mulch and might not be home when we deliver in the morning and need your mulch placed in a specific location, please leave a note on your door. Otherwise the mulch will be left in your driveway. Thank you to everyone for making this a very successful fundraiser for the band!
Solo and Ensemble
Piano accompanists have begun coming out during classes. At this point, all students should be able to play through their entire solo at tempo or at least approaching the goal tempos. You only get two rehearsals with your accompanists so please do not waste those opportunities by not being prepared. Every student knows who their accompanist is and should check Charms to see which dates they will be here.
TCGC Show at OTHS on February 23
On Saturday, February 23rd, we will be hosting a guard/indoor percussion contest at Tompkins. This is a very large event with 80 guard and percussion units coming to compete. Not only is this a large even, it is a lot of fun! Many student and parent volunteers are needed to keep things running smoothly. Any amount of time you can volunteer is a huge help. Please click on the Sign Up Genius link below to sign up for volunteer spots. Many donations are also needed so if you can't volunteer your time, please consider donating to the event instead.
Thank you for all you to do support the OTHS Falcon Band!
VOLUNTEER SIGN UP:
Individual pictures will be taken Wednesday, February 13 during all classes. All wind and percussion students will at least need to wear their marching uniform jacket for the composite picture. Guard students will wear their fall uniforms. If you are interested in purchasing a set of pictures, you may do so. Order forms went home with students this week. Wind and percussion students who are purchasing individual pictures will wear their full uniform so will need to bring uniform shoes and black socks to school for the picture. Since the composite picture is just a head shot, if you are not purchasing pictures you do not need to bring any uniform accessories.
Have a great weekend!
