Band Update 8-14-20
I hope everyone had a good week and is ready to start school! We’ve got a great plan for our band classes and will be communicating via Canvas what we will be doing. The great news is that as of right now we will be able to meet with everyone on a daily basis during your band class time, no matter if you’ve elected KVA or in person school. Also, please be patient as our counselors are working hard to get everyone in the correct class period. I have already communicated errors in the schedule to our counselors, so if you see that you’re not in the right band class period, don’t panic.
I would like to express how proud I am of our band families now that we’ve pretty much got everyone through start up. We have approximately 150 families who have joined the band booster organization and over 60(!) who have indicated that they would like to be angel donors. While I completely understand that money is tight for all of us, this level of generosity is so awesome to see. We have such a tremendous band family!
We will resume rehearsals next week and all safety protocols that were established before are still in place. The big difference now is that we’re going to be outside during a much hotter part of the day. Please make sure you are hydrating through the weekend and drinking water before you come to rehearsal on Monday.

Thursday – Full Band Rehearsal from 4:30pm-6:30pm
Friday – Full Band Rehearsal from 4:30pm-6:30pm
Marching Band Participation
We have received more guidance from the district regarding student participation in marching band. Any student who has chosen not to participate in marching band this year will receive a fine arts or elective half credit for the fall semester instead of a P.E. half credit. Only students who are participating in marching band will be able to receive the P.E. half credit. The good news though is that this only affects freshmen and sophomores and students only need one full P.E. credit to graduate, so if you don’t get that half credit this year, you’ll be able to get it next year and the following year (if necessary). Based on this new information, if you are not currently planning to participate in marching band this fall and would like to change your mind to participate, just reach out to me and there will be no problem getting you in.
Everyone who has gone through startup then you should have received an invoice from our treasurers pretty soon after you completed the process. If you haven’t had a chance to make a payment yet, please make sure you do so. If you did not receive an invoice, please email our treasurer at firstname.lastname@example.org, and they will resend one.
We also need to make sure everyone turns in their Consent to Treat/Travel Form and UIL Acknowledgement Form. If you haven’t already done so, please sign those and return them to me at your earliest convenience. If you need paper copies, just let me know and we’ll figure out a way to get those to you.
