Band Update 2/18/20

As you’re probably aware, this weekend Tompkins High School has the honor of hosting the annual Texas Color Guard Circuit competition for the 4th year in a row. This has been a huge fundraising opportunity for the Falcon Band (second only to our Homecoming mum sales!) and we are aiming to make this year’s contest even more successful than ever.

They say that “volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart”. The volunteers we’ve had in the past are a big reason our school has been well received and able to continue hosting the contest. We’ve had a fair number of people sign up so far for this year’s show, but we desperately need more as we still have several important slots to fill. The positions have been divided into shifts throughout the day, so even if you can sign up for a single shift you’ll be helping the band tremendously! It’s also worth mentioning that if you have a Guard student performing, we will make sure you get to see their performance even if it’s during a shift you signed up for.

Here is the signup link:

If you just can’t make it that day, please consider making a hospitality donation (listed at the bottom of the signup sheet). We are asking for things like “Case of Sprite”, “Bag of Hershey’s Nuggets” or “Jug of Tea”. These are inexpensive items that get served to the TCGC contestants, judges and staff throughout the day. There are also a few requests for things like crockpots of chili, mac & cheese and pulled pork that get served in the judges lounge.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort in helping to make this year’s TCGC competition a success!

Thank you very much to everyone who came out and delivered the 1500+ bags of mulch this past weekend and special thanks to Holly Datwyler for coordinating the whole operation!

Congratulations to our indoor groups on their performances last Saturday. The indoor drumline had their premier performance and earned a 2nd place finish out of 17 groups. The A guard and Open guard both earned spots in finals at the WGI regional and ended up placing 12th and 1st, respectively. The next performance for these groups will be at the Tompkins TCGC show on February 22.

Solo and Ensemble

Piano accompanists have begun coming out during classes. At this point, all students should be able to play through their entire solo at tempo or at least approaching the goal tempos. You only get two rehearsals with your accompanists so please do not waste those opportunities by not being prepared. Every student knows who their accompanist is and should check Charms to see which dates they will be here.

Pictures of the students were taken last week in class. Everyone should have received an order form, but if you misplaced yours or would like to order pictures online, you can do so by going to
