WHAT IS A MUM?
A mum is a floral pin worn by students during Homecoming. Typically, girls will wear their mum and boys will wear their garter to school on the day of the Homecoming football game and to the game that evening.
Mums and garters are not worn to the Homecoming Dance. A traditional corsage or boutonniere is worn to this semi-formal event.
It is customary for a student to purchase a mum or garter for their Homecoming date. However, it is not necessary to have a "date" to the Homecoming Dance to wear a mum or garter. It is perfectly acceptable for a mum or garter to be purchased by a student's good friend, family member, parent, or even by the student themselves.
