OTHS BAND BOOSTER ORGANIZATION

Music is in everything around us.  It elicits memories and feelings and helps us find ourselves, helps us through hard times and gives us a way to express ourselves and connect with others.  Learning music prepares students for the workforce because it promotes creativity, teamwork, collaboration, discipline, craftsmanship and the desire to work hard.

The Tompkins Band Booster Organization’s mission is to provide resources and support to enable the band directors and students to realize their vision and potential of achieving the highest standards of music education and performance; to foster an appreciation for music; to promote the value of music in our community; and to nurture opportunities for personal growth and leadership.

Who We Are

The Obra D. Tompkins High School (OTHS) Band Booster Organization is a 501c3 organization of parents with students in the school’s music program whose goal is to provide support both financially and through activities that meet the directors’ vision that enable our students to achieve the highest standards of music education and enrichment.

How We Do It

The OTHS Band Boosters manage the operating budget and provide support to the band directors.  The Boosters organize various fundraising activities and special events for the Band and Crimson Pride in addition to events in and around the community.  The Boosters also support many activities including chaperoning, providing game/competition day meals and maintaining uniforms.

Why Get Involved

Being a part of the booster organization is a great way to be involved in your child’s activities.  It is also a great way to meet other Band and Crimson Pride parents and families as well as other students.

It takes a considerable budget to ensure our Band and Crimson Pride can perform at football games (ie transportation, drinks, snacks), competitions (entry fees, choreography, music, transportation, clinicians, etc) as well as provide some team building and community events (ie car wash, Jingle Jam, Band Banquet, Fall Formal).  Much of our focus is on fundraising; without volunteer support at these events we will not be able to participate or fund these activities which will require us to raise the fair share operating expense fee.

What Can You Do

The OTHS Band and Crimson Pride rely heavily on volunteers.  Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and provide your student the best experience possible.  Volunteering for the band is a great opportunity to spend time with your child and watch them in action.  There are several ways you can support the OTHS Band and Crimson Pride:

  • Follow us on social media to stay up to date on all activities

  • Sync your calendar with the official band calendar on Charms (see FAQ on how to)

  • Attend the twice a year general assembly booster meetings

  • Asking businesses to sponsor the band (link to corporate sponsorship letter)

  • Volunteer!  We have a spot for you even if you only have an hour to give (ie chaperoning, serve meals, wash uniforms, photograph an event)

  • Join one of our many committees (Mum Shop, Fall Formal, Pit Crew, Band Banquet) or run for a seat on the Band Booster Board
